NAIDOC 2017 – Why Languages Matter (Episode 1)

Can you speak Kookaburra to a snake in Tamarama?

Did you know that before European invasion there were as many as 250 distinct Indigenous languages spoken in Australia?  Most of these languages would have had several dialects, so that the total number of named varieties would have run to many hundreds.

Today only around 120 of those languages are still spoken and sadly many are at risk of being lost as Elders pass on.

Munya blends socio-linguistic information and Indigenous wisdom to entertain and delight.
