What’s wrong with fake art?

A staggering proportion of so-called Aboriginal art and souvenirs is actually fake – an estimated 80%, in fact! Evolve Co-Directors Carla Rogers and Aunty Munya Andrews discuss the implications of this, and what we can do to ensure that the legitimate Indigenous Art industry remains protected.

Here are Evolve’s tips on how to buy Indigenous art ethically.

  1. Form a relationship with the artist or gallery.
  2. Learn the story behind your artwork, and share it as much as you can!
  3. Be an ally – if you spot fake Indigenous artworks or souvenirs, report them.
